Day 5 - "This is where I long to be...La Isla Bonita" - Happy Birthday Katie!

As Madonna sings...
"Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La Isla Bonita
,,,,
I fell in love with San Pedro
Warm wind carried on the sea, he called to me
I prayed the days would last
They went so fast..."

As I was fact checking Madonna's song to see if it was really about San Pedro, Belize...it turns out it is. :)  The song was written about San Pedro and offered to Michael Jackson for his Bad album. He turned it down and it was then offered to Madonna and she took it. Oliver, our boat captain from the other day said Madonna has visited the island.

Our day on La Isla Bonita started with the girls in search of another Coffee Bar - we found it a short walk from the hotel. It's a cute place with very strong WiFi and great drinks.

Today was going to be another relaxing day as Katie enjoys a spa day and we hang out at the pool.
Happy Birthday Katie!

A day like this isn't that bad!!

Before the pool day began,
Don and Carleigh participated in the 8:00 a.m. beach clean up sponsored by The Phoenix every Saturday. The owner and an employee invite guests to help them walk the beach about a 1/2 mile down to their sister restaurant and clean up the beach. They do it every Saturday whether any guests join or not. Today there was one other and Carleigh and Don.

they even made The Phoenix instagram feed
We spent some time wandering the streets looking for a book store, and there are none on the island. There is the San Pedro Library, and it's closed on the weekends. Don had to resort to downloading a book on his phone to read for the next 3 days and he found what could be his retirement venture - opening a bookstore in San Pedro....

Katie went to her Spa Day at the Sol Spa here on site at The Phoenix for a full body massage, facial and SOL soak in a jetted tub with all sorts of essential oils. She LOVED it. We spent the rest of the day poolside!

Katie with her birthday drink from the pool bar guys...which might or might not have had rum in it...

After our day of relaxing by the pool, we dressed for dinner, went to happy hour and then waited for our "taxi" to The Hidden Treasure" - our restaurant for the night. This place was too far to walk to and they offer complimentary shuttles from area hotels/resorts. It's about 2 miles away and set back in one of the neighborhoods of San Pedro. The Belizean owners turned their backyard into a restaurant. It comes highly recommended on TripAdvisor for a nice dinner and celebrations.

the table was decorated and there were balloons for Katie when we arrived

beautiful setting, not crowded when we arrived

complimentary Key Lime Pie dessert for Katie

The restaurant also played a very loud, very fun birthday song for her as they brought out the dessert

We got our shuttle back to the hotel, and enjoyed the beautiful moon-rise before heading to the room for the night

Stay tuned for our last "adventure" in Belize - we are snorkeling at Shark/Ray Alley and the Hol Chan Marine Reserve... 2 more nights left and lots of items to still check off our lists...
