The Rahns head west - Day 5 ~ Carleigh gets stuck in a tree and hiking from the Death Canyon trailhead

Day 5 started out with a great planned hike to Phelps Lake Overlook from the Death Canyon trailhead. The name sounds ominous, but we were reassured that it's just a name and a very moderate hike. That turned out to be true.

The fun started when Carleigh found a tree that was begging to be climbed. She got up about a foot (thinking she would shimmy all the way up) and got stuck. Then she tried to move and the rotten tree started scraping her in unmentionable areas...she was stuck!!  The series of photos below shows daddy coming to the rescue.

After rescuing Carleigh we  hiked the rest of the way to the overlook and it was beautiful!!!

Then we hiked back down and got ready for our last night in Jackson and the Tetons. Tomorrow we would head to Park City, Utah.

Our night in Jackson was finally warm and sunny. We got the obligatory Antler Arch picture and walked around for a bit.

A final drive into the park to say goodbye to the Tetons ~ it was a sad time for everyone. We truly do love it here. We all have our different reasons, but this place feels like home to us. After 5 visits we are comfortable and really know our way around. Carleigh and Don have the most attachment, but Katie and I also really love it!!

Ironically, I snapped this picture on the last night. We will be welcomed back again....currently we are looking at visiting in the winter. I'm thinking this would be a great place to celebrate my 50th birthday. :)

Tomorrow we head to Park City to celebrate our anniversary and visit the Utah Olympic Park. We'll spend 2 nights at the Waldorf Astoria (our anniversary treat) and then head on to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks for 3 nights.

Stay Tuned!!
