Arriving in Belize - Rahn Style

We made it!!

It is 5:30 a.m. and I'm sitting on our balcony enjoying this beautiful view reflecting on how lucky we are to be here and how happy I am to spend the next 9 days with my family free from any interuptions....just us!! So let's try to start the daily updates from The Phoenix Resort in San Pedro on the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Here is how yesterday- our travel day played out:
The day started with a 3:45 a.m. Dulles Flyer shuttle picking us up for Dulles and our 6:20 a.m. flight to Miami. We got to see the sun rise at Dulles before take-off. We then enjoyed(?) the Miami airport for our 3 1/2/ hour layover before heading to Belize City.

Our flight from Miami to Belize left at 12:45 p.m. and landed in Belize at 12:58 p.m. - wish that were real time and not the 2 hour time change. :)

Upon arrival in Belize City, we cleared immigration, collected our luggage, cleared customs and went through security again all in about 20 minutes and headed to the Tropic Air counter to check in four our 10 minute flight to Ambergris Caye and the town of San Pedro. The island that we will be spending the next 8 days on.

this is our 12 seater that will be flying us over the water to Ambergris Caye

We land at the small Tropic Air airport in San Pedro! We are here!!

We are met by a taxi driver from The Phoenix who takes us the 3 minute drive to the resort.

Upon check-in we are greeted by Anna who motions to the board in the lobby - as we are mentioned 3 different times! Katie is sharing her birthday celebration with Mikkel. :)

Anna gives us a tour of the resort and takes us to our room, where again we feel like we are coming home (even though we've never been here before) and are greeted by this in our 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom suite for the next 8 nights.

Our own little rum and coke kit, complimentary

our view - on site salt water pools and beach boardwalk.
The beaches in San Pedro really aren't swimming beaches. We've got 3 pools and a great view. :) The draw of Ambergris Caye is snorkeling and scuba diving. We'll be snorkeling. The beaches tend to be full of sea grass and not easily accessible for swimming. There are a few places on the island that are swimming beaches. We'll be exploring one of them later in the week.

We recognized the 2 hour time change and decided since it was still early enough that we would have some pool time before dinner. We enjoyed relaxing by the pools with some snacks and drinks then headed up to the free nightly happy hour and Carleigh's first legal drink as an 18 year old.

Drinking with my daughter - a Belikin in Belize!

We ventured out to a small grocery store to get some snacks for the room and then went to dinner at The Palapa Bar and Grill. A cute, fun place over the water about a 1 minute walk down the boardwalk from The Phoenix.

Sunset is at 6:30ish here, so it got dark quickly.

After dinner, our 18 hour day was catching up to us, so we returned to the room and all were asleep before 10, excited to wake up to Day 1 in Belize!

Stay tuned for what is expected to be a day of relaxation - pool time, lunch, maybe some paddle boarding and kayaking and dinner in San Pedro!!!
