The "MAINE" Reason that we traveled to Maine! Don and Laura Turn 20 - Day 3 in Bar Harbor and Acadia

A year ago as we were planning this trip to celebrate out 20th anniversary, it was going to be a couples trip...just Don and I. Well, we couldn't visit a national park and not take the girls with us, so here we all are, in Main celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary together. :)   What a great day we had!

The day started with a beautiful sunrise right out of our bedroom window, and a cruse ship had docked in the harbor.

Today was the day that we chose to explore Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island. We didn't realize that there is an "Acadia part 2 - the Schoodic Peninsula" back on the mainland.

The short hike to Bubble Rock was our first stop and it didn't disappoint.

The highlight was reaching the top of South Bubble mountain and finding Bubble Rock. This giant rock looks like it is going to fall of the side. It's pretty impressive!!
This is bubble rock!

After exploring the Bubbles, we headed to Jordan Pond. We had heard great things about the restaurant there and were hoping to maybe get in for lunch.

Jordan Pond is beautiful also, and looks out to the two Bubbles... South Bubble is the one on the right and that is the one that not an hour earlier, we were on top of.

We got in to the restaurant, the Jordan Pond House, and were seated fairly quickly when they opened at 11. We had a great lunch and enjoyed the popovers that they are famous for.  We were lucky and got an outdoor table looking out over Jordan Pond.

After lunch we headed to our next stop...Cadillac Mountain. We chose not to do the hike to the top and drove. :) The elevation is 1,529 ft and the hike, from what I've heard, is basically straight up.

the afternoon clouds were racing through below us.

Very far in the distance you can see the cruise ship in the harbor and our hotel.

After our day exploring Acadia and getting a taste of what it has to offer, we returned to the hotel to shower and change for dinner. I found a nice restaurant in town inside one of the hotels. So, we got cleaned up and headed to  the Bar Harbor Inn for our anniversary dinner. We ate dinner in The Reading Room restaurant in the hotel.

I loved the patriotic decorations

There was another nice sunset that evening from the restaurant.

After dinner, we headed back to the room. Tomorrow we were going to explore the Schoodic Peninsula and then take a Fireworks cruise and watch the fireworks over Bar Harbor from the water.

Stay tuned for how that all turned out...spoiler alert- it didn't! We made lemonade out of those lemons and ended up having a great 4th of July!!

After all, it's Seldom A Dull Moment with the Rahns!
