The Mountains Called...and we Arrived!

Autumn in the Tetons was a dream of ours and now it's a reality! An early 50th birthday present for Don afforded us the opportunity to escaped for a few days to enjoy our favorite place.

Our flight out was uneventful which is always a positive in today's world of canceled and delayed flights. Upon arrival, after getting our rental car, we embarked on our journey. One of our favorite things about this trip (our 6th time here, first in autumn) is that the airport is right in the middle of Grand Teton National Park. It's an easy access point to begin exploring right away.

Don has a lot of his favorite places here and since our room wasn't ready yet, we set out to start filling in that bingo card. :)

Stop 1: Schwabacher Landing inside Grand Teton National Park

Stop 2: Another favorite place to just soak in the views is Mormon Row. This is a site where some of the famous Ansel Adams photos have come from.

It was finally time to check in and after a couple of hours exploring our favorite places, we ventured to our hotel for the next 5 nights - Teton Mountain Lodge. Our first stay here was in 2009 for our 10 year anniversary with the girls and we fell in love with the area and the lodge. It has been our home base for eaach of our trips out west since then.

We were very excited to check in and get a room upgrade to celebrate Don's early birthday and our return visit. This place does it right!!

After quickly unpacking, we headed out to an early dinner (Teton time) and our bodies knew it was definitely dinner time on the east coast.

Stop 3: Dinner at Dornan's

Dornan's is another favorite place of ours. This little village is in the heart of Grand Teton National Park and has a pizza place, shops and cabins. You can't beat this view with your dinner.

Don's comment, "You know life is good when you log into Dornan's wi-fi automatically."

After dinner, we traveled along Moose-Wilson road looking for wildlife and got to see our first sunset in the tetons.

Stop 4: Sunset in the Tetons

Stop 5: We then drove out of the park and stopped for some groceries at Albertson's (the grocery store chain in the west) and headed back to the lodge for a good night's sleep before our big day tomorrow!!!

The Bingo Card is filling up and it's only day 1:

Stay tuned as day 2 includes an epic road trip through Yellowstone National Park. Will we see bears and bison?
Will we hear elk bugling in Mammoth?
Will we finally get an aerial view of Grand Prismatic Springs?

It's Seldom a Dull Moment with the Rahns - Wyoming Style!!
